Voting members of the Society assigned to the region will elect the senator during the Society’s general elections. The slate other region elected positions will be announced no later than May 20.
According to the bylaws, additional candidates may be nominated by petition for Senator, provided that the person is qualified for the position and agrees to be on the ballot if the petition is successful. A candidate for Senator must be a voting member of the Society and assigned to one of the professional sections or members at large in the region. Must be a voting member of the region (fellow, senior, professional, associate, or affiliate) in good standing (dues paid). No two Senators from a region may be from the same section or the members at large.
A minimum of 2% of the voting members of the Society in the region, with no more than half being from any one section or from the members at large, must sign or endorse the petition. There were 3,309 voting members of the Society in the region as of December 31, 2015; accordingly 67 signatures/endorsements are needed to nominate a member by petition. The petition along with written consent from the candidate must be received no later than midnight on February 19. Potential petition candidates should contact me as soon as possible for complete instructions about preparing petitions.
