Society of Women Engineers at Texas Tech University, with the help of many supporters, has successfully put on their first ever international outreach event! Seven members of the TTU SWE section collaborated with seven engineering students from the University of Costa Rica to plan and host the event called Energize to Globalize. Energize to Globalize took place at the University of Costa Rica in San José, Costa Rica on March 18th. Sixty-seven high school students, about 50% of whom were female, attended the event to learn about engineering and university opportunities.
The Texas Tech section of SWE would like to specifically thank the generous members of Region C who financially supported our Energize to Globalize event. Their donations went towards purchasing materials for the event. Software, recycling, and civil engineering workshops gave high school attendees a chance to learn how to think analytically and use their hands to apply basic engineering principles.
Not only was this event a learning opportunity for the high school students, but students from the University of Costa Rica gave positive feedback that they would be able to apply the practices learned from the putting on this event to host their own outreach events in the future! The Texas Tech SWE section is also hoping to use this experience abroad to help put on future international outreach events.
